Course Update May 25th 2022

  • After the worst winter in recent memory for ice damage for golf in Stockholm, plant health and turf survival has been the main focus since the club opened the course for play on May 7.
  • With already a tough start with ice damage, plus lots of construction projects and the cold and dry spring weather (even having a frost on Monday this week (23 May), to say the start has been a challenge is an understatement.
  • Greens 5, 7, 11, 12 were almost completely killed from the ice this winter (plus a few tees and fairways). Over the last 7-10 days we have had some good germination of seed and some good growth under our special turf covers.
  • Currently, these greens now have 70-80% coverage. However, opening these young plants for golf and routine maintenance now would only cause more damage than good. So, 10-14 more days of suitable conditions is needed, so we can ensure we have good greens from the rest of the season.
  • The other greens on the course are holding up to the non-stop play. Recovery is slow, but now the cold nights seem to be disappearing we can focus more on green speeds and smoothness over the next 10-14 days also.
  • Keep patience and give my staff on the course a pat on the back.
